Athletic Yoga Method

Every sport has its own specific demands

Each sport places its own physical and mental demands on the body, with different movement patterns, joint loads, energy requirements and levels of stress.

That is why bringing yoga into athletic preparation cannot be generic: it has to be designed around the athlete, their sport and the goals of the season.

A method designed to improve quality of movement, support recovery, optimise stress management and promote the athlete's sporting longevity.

The programme

It fits into your work, without replacing it

Athletic Yoga Method is a professional programme for individual athletes and teams who want to bring yoga, pranayama and meditation into their athletic preparation.

The programme is developed together with strength and conditioning coaches, coaches and the coaching staff, and fits into the training programme already in place.

Each programme is built around the athlete, their sport, the competition calendar and their performance goals. Sessions are one-to-one or in small groups, directly at the club's facility.

A scientific approach

From the yoga tradition to modern performance

Quality of movement

Mobility, joint stability and motor control. Regular practice significantly improves strength, muscular endurance and flexibility.

Nervous system regulation

Breathing techniques to manage stress and emotional arousal. A 2020 study in Frontiers in Psychiatry observed, after four weeks of Bhastrika pranayama, reductions in anxiety and negative affect.

Recovery and adaptation

Practices aimed at physical and mental recovery during periods of heavy load. A review in the Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise found encouraging results on performance anxiety and quality of life.

The method

A programme structured in four phases

01

Initial assessment

An individual assessment of joint mobility, quality of movement, stiffness or imbalances, breathing and capacity for self-regulation, coordinated with the coaching staff.

02

Personalised programming

A programme specific to the sport, the individual and the season's goals: mobility, Hatha Yoga applied to sport, pranayama, concentration, recovery practices.

03

Ongoing integration

Regular sessions coordinated with the training and competition calendar, working with strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists and coaches.

04

Review and adaptation

Every three months we look at how the athlete has progressed and adapt the work to the phase of the season and to individual goals.

Frequently asked questions

For the coaching staff

Does the programme replace the work of the coaching staff?

No. The programme is developed together with strength and conditioning coaches, coaches and the coaching staff, and fits into the training programme already in place without replacing it.

Where do the sessions take place?

At the club's own facility or at the athlete's base. That way the practice doesn't interrupt the daily training routine.

Do you work with the whole team or with individual athletes?

Sessions are one-to-one or in small groups of up to four people, depending on the initial assessment and the goals. Teams are split into small groups of up to four people.

How often is the programme reviewed?

Every three months we look at how the athlete's mobility, quality of movement, breathing and needs have evolved, and adapt the work to the phase of the season and to individual goals.

Do you work outside Milan?

Yes. We are based in Milan and Lombardy and, on request, work throughout Italy and abroad. Athletic Yoga Method teachers can also travel with the athlete, for example to competitions abroad or elsewhere in Italy, to help them keep up their routine and support them while they compete.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of athletes, the frequency and the goals. Write to us using the buttons at the bottom of the page and we will send you a proposal.
